Yesterday I went for a swim and surprise surprise... What do I see??? Lots of white baby sharks with the black fin swimming around me. I got scared... and I left back to the beach. At that moment when I was walking to my room I met a Maldivian guy and I asked him why there were so many baby sharks swimming around the island during the day and disappearing at night time.
The boy explained to me then:
- Mom shark swims at 5am to the reef with the babies to place her children in the reef before sunset.
I asked:
- But what is the reason? Having such a huge ocean to swim around? Why do they come here?
And he answered:
- It is a form of protection. Children sharks can hurt themselves in the deep waters or even be eaten by bigger fishes of the ocean world. That's why she places them in the early morning in the reef, to protect them. At night time she swims back with her husband to pick them up and that way the family can sleep and spend the night together.
After listening to the beautiful story my fear of sharks disappeared and today I end up enjoying their company.
Now I realize that sharks are not so different to us humans and in the end even mom shark just wants to protect and take care of her family.
